My short rant about hosted email
This is going to be a little off the beaten path as far as topics go, but I need vent about hosted email. Heck, I don’t even know what it’s called. It could be referred to as business email for all I know. The point is, I have had very little luck with it being useable.
I have had Yahoo web based email since 2004. As far as I know, it has never failed to work. It’s like a Mac, it just works. I even tried switching all my email usage over to gmail at one point in 2009. As soon as I did, I had trouble getting all of my email sent to me in a timely fashion. Some of it came days later than when it was sent. Yahoo mail works every time.
Now getting back to hosted email, I can’t figure out how to get them to work properly with my computer or iPhone. Even to this day I can’t get my hosted email to find the correct server to send a message. Also, the worst app on a Mac is the mail app. Why can’t it just work like it’s supposed to? I’m sure I am doing something wrong, but why is it so hard? I can put up a website in a matter of minutes, but I can’t get my email to work. Go figure.
I have heard different people say that if you run your business using Yahoo mail or Gmail, you aren’t serious about your business or it looks unprofessional. Why? Because having your email actually work is unprofessional? I actually like being able to respond to customer requests in a timely fashion. Just because I have @yahoo.com after my email address, doesn’t mean that you are not professional. It just means that you will be able to receive and send email.
Until hosted email, or even Gmail catches up to Yahoo, I will just keep using Yahoo. If that makes me unprofessional, so be it. At least I will get the email from the person complaining.
